Winter in Wine Country

Winter in Wine Country

As the temperatures drop, and a blanket of snow can be seen on the nearby mountains, Vaseux Lakeside Resort transforms into a Winter Wonderland, offering a unique experience for those seeking a cozy escape in the heart of British Columbia’s Wine Country this Winter. We are grateful to have one of Canada’s warmer winter climates, attracting snowbirds from all around the country. Join us as we explore the beauty of spending the Winter season in Wine Country.

Winter Wine Tastings

The first and most obvious thing to do while visiting Wine Country, is to visit one (or two…) of the many wineries and vineyards. No matter the weather, many of the winery’s welcome guests year-round, providing a warm and cozy atmosphere to savour the unique flavours of the region. Canada is the world’s largest producer of ice wine, a style of dessert wine created using grapes that have frozen on the vine during the Winter months. Visit one of the wineries in the Okanagan and pair this sweet wine with a delicious cheese board or some dark chocolate.

Scenic Snowshoeing Trails

Don’t let the cold weather keep you indoors, explore what Wine Country has to offer on one of the many snowshoeing trails in the Okanagan. The Okanagan is well known for its “Champagne Powder”, a very light, dry, and smooth snow which is perfect for snowshoeing. There are snowshoeing trails for beginners, as well as for those who are more advanced, so choose one depending on your ability. Some recommendations for snowshoeing trails close by the resort are McIntyre Bluff, Burnell Lake Recreation Site and Meadow snowshoe trail.

Ice Fishing

Another popular activity in the Okanagan during the winter season is ice fishing. As the temperature drops, Vaseux Lake freezes over, becoming an optimal destination for those seeking a thrilling yet rewarding ice fishing adventure. Largemouth bass, rainbow trout and carp are most commonly caught here. At Vaseux Lakeside Resort we are situated right on Vaseux Lake, making us the prime location for your ice fishing adventures this winter. We also provide a complimentary canoe so that guests can get some practice fishing in as they wait for the lake to freeze over.

Winter Themed Local Events

There’s no better way to meet new people than by getting involved in community events. Check out Visit Oliver for information on local events and activities in the area this Winter Season.
